About New York. [05 Jan 2008|04:03pm] New York City (officially The City of New York) is the largest city in the United States, with its metropolitan area ranking among the largest urban areas in the world. For more than a century, it has been one of the world's major centers of commerce and finance. New York City is rated as an alpha world city for its global influences in media, politics, education, entertainment and fashion. The city's cultural centers for arts are among the nation's most influential. The city is a major center for foreign affairs, hosting the headquarters of the United Nations. Residents of the city are known as New Yorkers. The current mayor of New York City is Michael Bloomberg. New York City comprises five boroughs, each of which is coterminous with a county: The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. With over 8.2 million residents within an area of 322 square miles (830 km²), New York City is the most densely populated major city in the United States. Many of the city's neighborhoods and landmarks are known around the world. The Statue of Liberty greeted millions of immigrants as they came to America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, at Ellis Island. Wall Street, in Lower Manhattan, has been a dominant global financial center since World War II and is home to the New York Stock Exchange. The city has been home to several of the tallest buildings in the world, including the Empire State Building and the twin towers of the World Trade Center, which were destroyed in the September 11, 2001 attacks. New York is the birthplace of many American cultural movements, including the Harlem Renaissance in literature and visual art, abstract expressionism (also known as the New York School) in painting, and hip hop, punk, salsa, and Tin Pan Alley in music. In 2005, nearly 170 languages were spoken in the city and 36% of its population was born outside the United States. [05 Jan 2008|01:54pm] Before you apply, be sure to read the rules. We will know if you haven't read it for it is a part of your application. 1) Activity: You must update your journal every 2 weeks with an entry of about 1 or 2 paragraphs. Picture posts, surveys, posts in the subcommunities and oneliners do not count! We do issue warnings around here and there will be a deadline issued within the warning, stating when you have to update by. You must be active on AIM as well and your screen name has to do with your character and must contain an element of their name. 2.) Don't Mix IC and OOC. It happens and every community and but please be mature. Everyone knows what that is, and the mods are very well aware of what it is here, nothing slides or goes unnoticed. If a character doesn't like your character, its most likely not personal, and more so done to enhance your storyline. 3.) Drama: If you can't deal with that, then don't bother applying. The drama goes anywhere from grudges, racism, rape, uninhibited sexual themes, mafias and mobsters, gangs, and is not limited to drug use or anything else. Once again, if you can not deal, Don't apply. 4.) Keep your characters between the ages of 14 and 40. Male, female, or androgynous characters are allowed. We will NOT deny your character because we don't know who they are or they are not widely known. We have google, and can look you up. We do not accept e-famous people or myspace whores. The only exception would be people EVERYONE is going to know (Audrey Kitching, Forbidden, Hanna Beth Merjos, Jeffree Star, Raquel Reed). When you apply, stick the name of your favorite movie in the subject line. 5.) Pregnancies are to be approved by the mods, no ifs, ands or buts about it. The pregnancy will last at least three months, one month representing a trimester. 6.) All Posts in Your own journals and ALL Sub Communities Must be locked. 7.) You can only Play 3 characters without mod consent. *CURRENT MEMBERS: If you already have more than 3, thats fine, you just cant have anymore. (effective 09/12/07) *If you want to play more than 3, talk with a mod. If you cant keep 3 journals really active, you dont need 4 characters. *If we find out youre playing more than 3 against the rule or our say, you will have to drop one character of your choice, or 2, 3 characters, whatever takes you back down to 3. keep in mind that: There are no rules here except for the ones that are stated above; anyone can jump into anyones storylines. Relationships will be broken up, friendships toyed with, and other invasive ideas. Its part of the unrestricted RPing ideas here. Also, the mods will not hear complaints on excessive drama related topics or 'personal attacks'. If you complain to the mods about anything along those lines, You are only proving to us that you are not mature enough for this RPG and you will be warned or removed.
